Scouts

Scouts meet: Mondays, 7:15pm to 9:00pm

Ages: 10 to 15 years old

The main focus for this term is to prepare for the District Camp on the first weekend of the September school holidays. This camp is over 4 nights, and is the qualifying camp for Jamboree. As we have 17 scouts signed up for the Jamboree, and only one of you has 4 consecutive nights under canvass, we will have a big group for the camp. Not only is the camp 4 nights, but there will be lots of fun activities and a gourmet cooking competition. The troop will cater for the camp, and the meals will be prepared by a duty Patrol. In that respect, it will be very similar to the structure of the Jamboree.

The program is structured around the skills needed for a static camp. Hence we will be preparing menus, practicing cooking, setting up tents and cooking fly and preparing our Patrol Boxes. Along the way, we will gain Pioneer and Explorer level badge tasks. For the first time is a while we will have many Senior Scouts doing Explorer Levels.

Another requirement for the Jamboree is to have 10 nights of sleeping under canvass. I suggest that scouts who have just joined plan to do:

• District Camp – 4 nights
• Gilweroo – 2 nights
• Patrol Camp – 2 nights
• One other camp or hike – 2 nights

On the program there are several Patrol Camps available to attend. These camps are designed for a patrol of scouts to attend without troop leaders – just the course leaders. Depending on the experience of the scouts who are going, we may have a leader attend all weekend, or to help set up, or not at all. PLEASE let me know ASAP which Patrol Camps you would like to attend and we will book in. Some are very popular and have limited places, so let me know early.
